SAMARITANS
Trauma Support Training Course
The Trauma Support Training Course, developed by the Samaritans and the trade union ASLEF, aims to help anybody within the rail industry who has experienced a fatality to recover.

Part of this is the Journey to Recovery booklet, specifically designed to help drivers. It covers driver's case studies, symptoms of trauma and what processes to follow after witnessing a fatality.
Steven Tollerton works for the Samaritans and provides trauma support training to railway personnel.
He said: "It simply highlights to a driver that what they are going through is natural and normal and what the processes are because if you're aware of these things they can make you less stressed.
If you don't know what the processes are it can add to the stress involved."
